Tell us a bit about who you are and what you do.
Hi! I’m Mariana Astiazaran, a 28-year-old Mexican stylist and content creator. I've been posting since I was 16, but lately I've been focusing more on my fashion account @simpleheadline. I grew up in Tijuana, with the blessing of going back and forth between Tijuana and San Diego. Long story short, I was always into fashion but never really knew how to pursue it as a career until I graduated college. I started working at a digital styling company, fell in love with it, and instantly knew styling was what I should be doing. I’ve been in the industry for four years now, and I absolutely love it.
How did you get started with content creation?
I started because I wanted to have a little collection of my outfits – something I could refer back to if I wanted to repeat them. I also wanted to inspire people; I'd always get asked where I got my clothes, and since I often bought affordable pieces, I thought it would be fun to share where I found cool items and how I styled them. I started posting when I had free time, and at first, I was too shy to show my face.
As the years went by, I finished college and decided I wanted to be more active on social media. And here we are now, just embracing being more consistent and present!
How would you describe your style today, and what was the journey like to develop it?
I’d say my style is timeless, tailored, chic, and modern. While I've experimented with different phases, my aesthetic tends to circle back to classic elegance with subtle nods to current trends. I love trends, but my focus is on building a wardrobe of versatile, timeless pieces. Occasionally, I'll incorporate a trendy element to keep things fresh, but my core style remains rooted in timeless and classic. Over the years, I've developed a solid foundation of basics and now enjoy investing in statement pieces that add a touch of personality to my outfits.

What was it that brought you to Miami, and what are your 3 favorite things about living in the city?
My former boss suggested we take a styling course at Istituto Marangoni, so I jumped at the opportunity. I thought I was coming for a year, and now I’m starting my fourth year here!
Three things I love about Miami:
The city’s vibe is so versatile: if you want to party or just relax, you can do both.
I love that people here vacation so often—I find myself on mini getaways every weekend, whether it’s the beach or on a boat.
And being Mexican, I really appreciate the warmth and the big Latin community—getting to meet new people, learn new cultures, and just enjoy that lively atmosphere is so much fun.
My Perfect Miami Day
My perfect Miami day starts with waking up and sipping an iced coffee on my terrace, followed by either a Pilates class or a peaceful walk in my Alo set. After that, I’d have a simple breakfast—probably while scrolling through Pinterest, Instagram, or Substack for a little inspiration.
I’d spend a couple of hours sunbathing by my pool, then head out for a casual sushi lunch with my boyfriend (still in my Hunza G bikini and a light cover-up). Once back home, I’d shower, then spend some time creating content or organizing my apartment, just a relaxing “me day” in my green JBD cargo jeans, a white t-shirt, and jelly flats.
In the evening, I’d go out for dinner and drinks with friends—wine or margaritas, depending on the night. For that, I’d dress up a little in my dark-wash JBD denim, a cute top, and small heels, perfect for dinner or a night out at a bar. And since I love balance, I’d wrap things up and be in bed by 1 a.m.
The Miami weather doesn’t look like it’s cooling down anytime soon — what are your tips for participating in fall fashion trends even when it’s still hot outside?
Honestly, I’m always cold—my apartment is freezing, and stores are always icy during shopping trips! So for me, incorporating fall trends is pretty easy. I love pulling out my warm coats and sweaters when I travel or when the weather cools down even a little bit. It’s all about layering lightweight pieces or adding a statement accessory to elevate a summer outfit with a fall vibe.

How has working as a stylist at Editorialist influenced your personal creativity and style?
It’s shown me so many different ways to interpret fashion and play with clothes. I’ve learned how to see silhouettes, shapes, and styling in new ways. I love reading our editors' articles, they help me stay inspired and up-to-date with the latest trends.
With fall on the way, what trends are you most excited to style this season?
I’m so excited about suede, I know everyone else is too, but I just can’t get enough! I also love caps, cheetah print (which, honestly, has never gone out of style for me), and interesting shapes: whether that’s a jacket, top, dress, or pants. I love mixing those elements for a bold, chic look.
What advice would you give to someone starting with finding their personal style?
Follow your gut and wear whatever makes you feel comfortable. Take the time to figure out which colors and silhouettes really work for you — that’s the key. If you’re wearing something that doesn’t flatter your body, you’re not going to feel your best. Once you know what shapes and cuts highlight the parts of yourself you love, getting dressed becomes so much easier and so much more fun.
Are there other ways you love to express yourself artistically outside of social media?
Yes! I love creating moodboards. When I have the time (which isn’t often), I’ll go to Barnes & Noble, buy a big stack of magazines, head home with a Diet Coke, put on a fashion-y TV show (Sex and the City, or a good old fashion movie), and just cut and paste moodboards. It’s such a creative outlet for me, I can do this for hours.

How are you styling your JBD jeans this fall?
Honestly, for everything! I’m styling some looks for travel, some for date nights, and then of course for my everyday. They’re versatile enough to fit into all parts of my life.
What’s next for you—any exciting projects or goals you’re working on?
Yes! I’m heading to fashion week next week, which I’m so excited about. September is basically going to be all travel for work, but I’m looking forward to getting back into the groove. Right now my focus is on building a really engaging community, inspiring my audience, and meeting new people along the way.
On a personal level, one of my big goals is finding balance — especially when I’m traveling. I want to be more organized with my schedule so I can stay productive while still enjoying the ride.
